Migrating Your Games to the New Version of SameBoy in Afterplay

Step One: Open a Game

  1. Open one of your GB or GBC games. We have simplified the migration process to be on a game-by-game basis. This allows you to migrate at your convenience.

  2. Modal Notification: Upon game launch, a pop-up should appear, indicating that your account is set to use the old version of SameBoy.

    • Close this pop-up by clicking Later.

  3. Create an In-Game Save: If you do not have a recent in-game save, it's crucial to create one now.

    • In-Game Save vs. Save States: In-game saves are saved within the game's own mechanics, similar to saving on an actual console. Save states are snapshots of the game at the exact moment they are created by the emulator, capturing everything, including the game's current memory, inputs, and more. The new version of SameBoy cannot use save states from the older version but can use in-game saves.

Step Two: Migration

  1. Open the Save & Settings Menu.

  2. Navigate to the Config Tab: In the settings menu, look for the 'Config' tab.

  3. Emulator Dropdown: Within the 'Config' tab, find the emulator dropdown menu. This will be set to 'Inherit,' using the default value for your account.

    • Change this setting to 'SameBoy' to migrate this game to the newest version.

  4. Apply Emulator Selection: After selecting SameBoy, click 'Apply Emulator Selection.'

    • This action will restart the emulator and load your latest in-game save through the game's loading mechanisms, such as the 'Continue' button.

    .

Step Three: Confirmation

  1. Confirm Your Progress: Once the game reloads, ensure that your progress has been successfully loaded and you can continue playing.

Step Four: Repeat and Set Global Default

  1. Repeat for All Games: Follow these steps for all your GB and GBC games to migrate each one to the new SameBoy version.

  2. Set Your Global Default: Once all individual games are migrated, you can set your global default to the new version of SameBoy by:

    • Going to the library page

    • Clicking on your user avatar

    • Selecting 'Settings'

    • Opening the hamburger menu

    • Clicking 'Emulators'

  • Using the dropdowns to set your global emulator preferences. Ideally you want this set to 'SameBoy' and NOT 'SameBoy (old)'.

Troubleshooting: If any issues arise, you have the option to switch back to the older version, load a save state, and attempt the migration again. For further assistance, please reach out to us on our .
