Save state corruption can occur, which is why it's always advisable to use the game's built-in saving function, as it tends to be more stable. A corrupted save state could explain why your game fails to load. To resolve this, we can disable the auto-load feature for save states, allowing you to manually load a save state once the game has started. To try this you can follow the guide below
Tap the ellipsis icon (three vertical dots).
A popover menu will appear.
Click on "Edit" to open the settings modal. Scroll down to the "Save Options" section and toggle off the "Auto Load State" feature.
You can the open your game and it will load from your last in game save. You can then try to load your last state or a state previous to that if that state won't load.
If the above doesn't solve the issue, check to see if other games on the same console will load for you. If they do it can point to an issue with the specific game, and if they do not it can sometimes point to a larger issue that we need to fix. If you have no other games, go ahead to the next step.
If disabling auto-load state doesn't work, and other games are loading fine, try re-adding the game to Afterplay and see it it runs okay on a fresh copy. Please see the page regarding transferring save files to have the best chance of not losing any game progress you've already made.
